Can't load xsp file

Postby mb1910 » Fri Nov 20, 2020 8:18 pm

Software was working fine yesterday. All of a sudden it won't let me load any existing or new xsp file. Simply calls up a "noname" blank screen. Have tried everything, including uninstalling and reinstalling the software. Using Platinum Plus - Version: 2.1.1.0 - Build: 2.1.1.495 - Build Date: 3/31/2017 11:44:54 AM. Nothing seems to work. Help! Our business uses this software every day.

This is becoming a real problem, as our business is essentially shut down without this software. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the software. No joy. I have installed both the 2017 and 2020 demo versions. Nothing. We had a friend download the new demo version on his computer and try to load one of our xsp files. That worked perfectly, so the problem must be related to our particular installation. I have tried deleting all the related files I could find (users->appdata and Windows->Program Files (x86)). Nothing different. There must be another config file out there somewhere, because when I reinstall the software it still retains my old screen layout and the default folder pointers.

The software stores settings in the system registry. You can run the progrm regedit.exe to edit it.

Search for "Cross Stitch Professional" (without the quotes). Then delete the entire branch to reset the settings. The program will re-create the defaults when its run again.

You can also check that your windows temp folder is accessible and writeable. It will be found in your Windows user folder like the following for my username Dave:
C:\Users\Dave\AppData\Local\Temp

The program needs to use the temp folder to store the decrypted design that you are trying to open. The latest version of the software allows you to see what folder is being used by selecting "show my folder locations" from the Help menu of the software. Not sure if your version has it or not but you could probably check with the demo.

Sometimes a Windows update messes up your access rights. You can try creating a new Windows login name to see if that might be the problem.

I should have pointed out that Appdata is a hidden folder so you need your file browser configured to show hidden files or you can type in the full path.
