DP Software changes to PayPal for card processing

Postby DPSoftware » Fri Aug 17, 2012 5:38 pm

After many years of having a company credit card merchant account, DP Software has converted to using PayPal for direct sales.

The only impact this will have is that it will no longer be possible to pay over the phone - customers will have to enter their own card details online. You don't need to sign up for a PayPal account if you don't want to. Just click the "I don't have a PayPal account" link on the payment page. You can then enter your card details in the normal way. PayPal becomes the card processor rather than our previous processor SagePay. If you are in the UK, then you also have the ability to pay by bank transfer and we support the "faster payment" method.

The reason for this move is the increasing cost and time of using the banks own card payment schemes. Recently they have imposed minimum monthly commissions, a 25% increase in online fees and now an annual maintainance fee and the need for annual security reports and computer scans.

Download versions of the software are not affected and will continue to be sold by SWREG Softshop - part of Digital River. They accept cards directly, PayPal, wire transfers and checks.

By keeping costs low, we are able to avoid price increases. Some of you may know that the basic 3 versions of the software have remained the same price since the 1990s except for a brief period when the tax rate went down.

Note that if you are using your credit card with PayPal then you are still covered by the consumer credit act. This will not be the case however if you have a PayPal account and are using an existing PayPal balance. If you are a PayPal member and this concerns you, you should ensure the payment is funded from your card and not your account balance - or don't login and use your card directly.
